Ferrovial signs two construction contracts in Poland worth a total of 332 million euro

Ferrovial Agromans Polish subsidiary Budimex signed two major contracts today: one to design and build a railway line in Gdask, worth over 140 million euro, and another to build a section of the A4 highway between the Krzy and Dbica Pustynia junctions, for 192 million euro.

Madrid - Ferrovial, through Polish subsidiary Budimex, signed two contracts today worth a total of 1.380 billion zlotys (over 332 million euro).

The first contract was awarded to a consortium comprising Budimex (95%) and Ferrovial Agroman(5%) to design and build a railway line in Gdask. The project, worth 582.2 million zlotys (over 140 million euro), is expected to be completed in April 2015.

The railway line will improve the connection between Gdask and Gdynia with Lech Walesa International Airport. Those two cities together with Sopot comprise Tricity, the largest urban area in northern Poland, home to more than 1 million people.

The contract includes the construction of a 17-kilometre railway line between Gdask Wrzeszcz station and the Gdynia-Kocierzyna line and a 1.4-kilometre junction with the latter. It involves the construction of a control building, a turnaround wye, 16 railway and 8 road bridges, 8 stations, 5 overpasses as well as pedestrian footpaths and fauna crossings.

Budimex, in consortium with Ferrovial Agroman, upgraded the Gdynia Gwna Osobowa railway station and is currently improving a 50-kilometre section of railway line 9, in northern Poland, as part of a project worth more than 168 million euro.

A new section of the A4 highway, for 192 million euro

On the other hand, the consortium comprising Budimex (50%) and Heilit (50%) signed a contract today with Polands General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways to build a section of the A4 highway between the Krzy and Dbica Pustynia junctions in southeast Poland, for 798 million zlotys (around 192 million euro). Construction is expected to be completed at the end of 2014.

The project includes the completion of a 34.7-kilometre section of the A4 highway between the Krzy and Dbica Pustynia junctions, and the construction of two new junctions (Dbica-yrakw and Dbica-Pustynia), two service areas (Jastrzabka and Jawornik), a maintenance area in Straszcin, several bridges, and access roads.

Budimex has played a very active role in developing the A4, which, once completed, will run across southern Poland from the German border to the Ukraine border. The company has built the sections connecting Rzeszw with Dbica (32.7 kilometres) and Jarosaw with Radymno (25 kilometres), and was recently awarded the section linking West and Central Rzeszw (4 kilometres).
